Background
We are planning a small group excursion to Rishikesh in the foothills of the Himalayas in mid February 2017.
This trip is ideally suited for those who have never been to India before and feel drawn to go, but maybe have some reservations about travelling alone or with inexperienced guides, or feel they will have to negotiate hoards of beggars and poverty etc. This need not be the case. Indeed this trip is designed to ease the first time India traveller into the depth of the amazing Indian culture without the culture shock. MMC director, Peter will accompany you. This will be his 15th India trip, and about his 6th to Rishikesh. (He started coming here in the 1970's and still can't keep away.)
What You Will Likely Experience
You will meet interesting yogis, practice hatha yoga from authentic teachers, deepen your meditation, experience the profound beauty and power of the birthplace of yoga and meditation. We will stay by the river Ganga, snow fed from the pure Himalayan mountains. The water is clear, the air is fresh and charged with life force. The trip will run for 2-3 weeks, and you will receive additional instruction and guidance in Ayurveda as well as some special yogic techniques from experts.
At this stage we are seeking expressions of interest only. The group size will be limited to 12 persons. Priority will be given to past and current students of the Milton Meditation Centre, but others are welcome to apply.
The General Plan
We will fly from direct Sydney to Delhi (12.5 hours) and connect directly by a short internal flight to a local airport near our destination. Your experience so far is the inside of the Dreamliner aircraft, a smaller jet and two beautiful new airports. An easy 45 minute taxi ride through pretty scenery brings us to the magnificent and holy town of Rishikesh on the sacred River Ganga.
What if I'm Nervous About India?
In some ways it's sad that Rishikesh has become so westernised but it does mean that those of you who would never normally contemplate going to India can relax. There's abundant, healthy western food if you don't like Indian (seriously?), the lodgings are clean, there's wifi, shopping, yoga everywhere, wandering holy men, the most beautiful river, energy filled air, the history, the phenomenal energy and bliss. Lots of optional programs to choose from, white water rafting, massage, Ayurvedic beauty treatments. This will be a fun, happy, health promoting, life-changing trip. More to come.
Next Steps
Once we get a few inquiries, we will hold an information afternoon to allow those of you with an interest to ask questions and get more information. Cost is estimated to be in the vicinity of $3500, including return airfares, insurance, tuition fees, meals and accommodation. Spending money is up to you. There are a lot of beautiful things to see and buy and India is generally very cheap.
What Brought This About?
Peter was inspired to offer this trip because he sensed an interest in people who were curious but maybe afraid, and without this chance they might never get to experience the birthplace of yoga and meditation.
